Meet Farmer Pete

“Growing food and gathering community to seed health, hope and healing. When we tend the land, we tend the soul.”

Born in the Wasatch Mountains and raised on the Olympic Peninsula, connection with nature has always been Pete’s love language.

At a young age, in his mom’s home garden, a kinship with the Land was seeded. The California coast stole his heart and he found a deep sense of home on the shores of Monterey Bay. Encouraged by mentors at UC Santa Cruz, Pete transitioned from marine biology to ecological agriculture. With his hands back in the soil, tending the earth reignited a dormant, agrarian calling from his childhood. For nearly two decades, Pete explored his passion of farming, food and community by farming with his family in the Wasatch, visiting agrarian communities throughout the Americas and collaborating with food and community-based nonprofits.

Growing a family, Pete has been tested by life’s challenges. He has followed his heart and welcomed guidance from nature; starting Coast Organics feels like his destiny. Growing food, engaging families in stewardship, and honoring the Land are the values that guide Pete, his family and the growing community of collaborators and friends of the farm.

This is Coast Organics – a gathering place for healing, connecting with the Land and Sea, and finding Home, within.

Coast Organic’s Core Values

Grow

Growing good food, for the people, in the right way

At Coast Organics, we know every bite of food holds a complex story of history, health and hope. We focus our production on foods served to school children and their families by partnering with local organizations within our farm’s bio-region.

Gather

Gathering community to celebrate the land with reverence.

Sharing food, laughter, tears and labor on the Land, in community, strengthens us as a whole. Coast Organics hosts seasonal gatherings throughout the year so we may support one another, build new friendships, and welcome ongoing community bonds with the land and one another.

Inspire

Inspiring the next generation of land and sea caretakers.

Hope is in the hands of the youth. Through farm-to-school partnerships, family-oriented events and educational workshops, Coast Organics seeks to invest in the future by organizing youth-centered opportunities for land stewardship and fun on the farm.

Honor

Honoring traditions to heal, remember our roots, and come home within.

Coast Organics believes that in some way, we are all here to heal something. The more we join forces for good, remember our Caretaker roots and interconnect our work, the more resilient our communities become. We seek to honor the Land by supporting groups and organizations that caretake the Land Community.
